Hello Final 6!!!
This week you need to submit a photo to represent a period of time. Let's see your photo.
Anne ~ 1950's
Jensen: I like this, it's cute and fun and quirky. Just not sure it fits 100% but I get it and I like it.
Emma: That lighting is definitely not the most flattering, Anne. It makes you look as if you were actually born in the 1950s - Which was not the task.
For me, the 1950s two distinct aspects - Hair styles and dresses. Which the print of your dress is reminiscent to the 1950s, dress style is a little bit too modern. The ponytails comes off as a bit modern too, when I think of a ponytails in the 1950s, I think of Audrey Hepburn à la Sabrina.
Yoona: I get the 50's vibes from this photo especially the dress. I can see the pattern on your dress is similar to the 50's. I'm not really fond of your expression. I'm a little bit worried for you this week.
Ariana: I do sort of see where you were going with this, so it terms of thematic connection it's not too bad. Sometimes a limited portfolio can really handicap you in a shoot like this, and it's really luck of the draw, so don't beat yourself up too bad on that. That being said, I don't really like the facial expression at all, it's almost Joker-level creepy, but I like the setting and the body language a lot.
Beyonce ~ 1920's
Jensen: The photo is almost perfection. I say almost because the quality is horrific!
Emma: The quality is indeed horrific. It's the first thing I noticed. Do you look like a 1920s Josephine Baker? Hell no. A 1930s Bette Davis? The hair, the styling, everything is Bette Davis to me. Had you 1. Found a better quality image (Like this - It wasn't hard. Reverse image search is your friend.), and 2. Said 1930s (Bonus with reference to Bette), you would have won me over completely.
Yoona: I totally didn't have any idea who were Josephine Baker and Bette Davis so I've to search for their photo. I have to side with Emma on this one. I got Bette Davis vibes more than Josephine Baker. But you're still in the zone. I get 20's vibes from it. And please be careful with the quality of the photo. Because this photo is so gorgeous but the quality kinda dragged it down.
Ariana: I think the quality is a factor (obviously) but I could see how you could rationalize that away by saying that a lot of photos from those days suffered similar issues and it makes it look old, etc etc. The pose and hair are absolutely fantastic, and your facial expression is shamazing. Great work this week!
Ed ~ 1950's
Jensen: A yuppy Danny? Do you know who you're talking to here? I see you more as Sonny But in the end, I buy 50s for sure! Great job!
Emma: I think I may have had my hopes up too high when I saw you chose the 1950s. You have the perfect look for it. Then this picture. First, where is the energy. The 1950s was the beginning of that whole post-world war II, the Commies will get us period. Berenice would be appalled, I'm just saying.
Yoona: Energy!!! Though, I kinda love this photo. I can see the styling fits the 50's period. And you look so good in this photo. But like I said earlier, I want to see the energy. You look tired in this photo.
Ariana: The picture looks a tad grainy to me, but I like the posture and the whole mood of the piece. Nice job!
Hilary ~ 1960's
Brilliant! Nuff said!
Emma: Hil, in the movies week was two weeks ago, and you nailed it then. I don't know why you want to redo it... Now, I will gladly accept a reference to a style icon, but not really a movie... Wasn't Bonnie and Clyde set in the 1930s? A movie set in the 1930s with 1960s clothing. That's Hollywood for you. I mean, look what they did to me! But I digress. I appreciate the size, but even reducing it doesn't get rid of the noise which gives it some real bad quality. Overall, it's okay, but I would appreciate colour.
Yoona: I love this. I definitely can see 60's styling in this photo. The using of the accessories in this photo fits the styling and the era really well. Great job, Hilary.
Ariana: Like the pose and LOVE the outfit and styling of the piece overall, but I'm not entirely sold on the facial expression. Still, I think it's a really solid effort, and I'm quite impressed. Good work!
Rose ~ 1990's
Jensen: I can see 90s, women wearing ties all the time. I get it. And you look like a model.
Emma: Earth to Jensen, women have been wearing ties for decades. I see elements of the late 80s and early 90s in here, but it really comes off to me a really 2010s picture. That may be because it is, but I really wanted to see some butt ugly fashion here, and I am disappointed.
Yoona: If your pants is the high-waist jeans, it would help this photo a lot. I think you look gorgeous but like Emma, I have problem with the 1990's. I just don't feel it from your photo.
Ariana: I like the styling of this. There's nothing about it that particularly screams 90s to me, but it doesn't particularly... not... look 90sish, either... I should really write these things before 1 AM. I like the photo for what it is, but I'm not sure how much of a connection I see to the theme. But it's a tough shoot, and I think you did a pretty good with it, all things considered.
Sofia ~ 1970's
Jensen: The dress and the big clunky jewelry definitely work well. Good job.
Emma: Bullshit that's you. You look so different. I have no complaints about your outfit. Your hair could stand to be a bit bigger, and your arms could stand to be a little bit less amputated. I would have also loved to see some gogo boots.
Ariana: I almost get more of a sixties vibe from the photo, but I definitely appreciate the examples to demonstrate where your thought process went. Facial expression's a bit creepy, but other than that I really like what you've got going here. Great work!
Yoona: Out of everyone this week, I feel that your photo is the most balance overall. I love the styling and I can see a model here. But the most important thing is, I can see the 70's vibes from this photo.
